atelier LUMA: Collaborative production workshop

By creating a physical base at Parc des Ateliers, atelier LUMA wants to embody its basic principle: being accessible to all. This open environment becomes a laboratory where the know-how of a bio-region informs collaborative practices and the development of new projects.

Can a modular workspace for shared knowledge become, through time, a cooperation tool in itself?

The atelier LUMA headquarters allow participants to experience and explore Arles and the Camargue in a different way. While the machinery and materials present have a particular, specific relationship to the region, the knowledge generated and shared in the workspace creates mutually beneficial relationships between research, experimentation, production, and manufacturing.

The workshop space is structured and defined by modular elements: shelves, tables and displays based on the universal modular grid of OpenStructures. These elements form a flexible and architectural system, a toolbox by which to create and define different working environments. Able to shift and restructure, the system can adapt to different needs.
