What are the sensitive geographical markers of a territory?
The project is based on the observation that soils and landscapes tell an aesthetic and geographical story which impregnates inhabitants from one generation to the next. In the end, a collective interpretation of the ornament appears, one that deeply marks human and territorial memories.
In order to better understand the geo-cultural heritage, Atelier Luma will first study and review the sociological and ethnological research which has already been carried out on the Camargue. This examination will then be supplemented by a field survey conducted with the local population: our research team will try and gather information likely to deepen its cultural representation of soils and landscapes of Arles and its region.
The outcome of the research will be a plastic and aesthetic interpretation leading to a series of objects embodying the landscapes of the territory. This will enable individuals to reacquire the cultural context of today’s and yesterday’s Camargue.
